GRADUATE AND POSTGRADUATE TRAINING
Supporting education in genomics and bioinformatics at all
levels is a paramount goal of the CGB. Three means will be used to achieve this
goal.
- The Center will provide stipends for students and postdoctoral
fellows to study in one of two new and exciting interdisciplinary programs in
the biomedical sciences at UT: the Genome Science and Technology program
developed at UTK and ORNL (Dr. Jeff Becker, Director) and the Interdisciplinary
Program in Biomedical Sciences developed at UTHSC and SJCRH (Dr. Larry Pfeffer,
Director). We anticipate that the faculty in the Center will become active
participants in graduate education and postdoctoral mentorship in these
programs. We will work to have these programs be effective System-wide
through the use of tele/video conferencing.
- we will support symposium, seminar, and visiting scientist programs that
will engage individual researchers and departments in the most current trends in
genomics and bioinformatics.
- We will vigorously support workforce initiatives to train biomedical
technicians and researchers.
