This transgenic
mouse core demonstrates how the Center for Genomics and Bioinformatics
can transform the research environment at UT. With modest initial support,
a relationship was established with the Department of Comparative Medicine
(whose basic function had been to provide animal care for the campus) to
recruit a research-oriented assistant professor to direct the Transgenic/Knockout
Mouse Facility. Furthermore, the Facility has been generating transgenic
mice since 2000. The CGB will invest in the equipment to furnish a modern
transgenic facility and will recruit at least one other faculty member
to enhance the use of transgenic/knockout technology system-wide.
