The Ontological Discovery Environment serves to address the challenges of data integration and hypothesis discovery across multiple labs and gene sets. It collects user-submitted gene sets which can vary across species and phenotype, and integrates them using homology and cross-referencing. Users can collect their own groups of gene sets to analyze by searching the database for specific terms, genes, or shared gene sets, simplifying the data collection efforts required for ontological research. Multiple tools are available to perform gene set analysis, such as Phenome Mapping, Jaccard Analysis, and Hypergeometric tests. Visualization of results can then be seen in real time on the site.
