Dr. Jennings has been active in a number of bioinformatics educational activities: as a member of the Education Committee of the International Society for Computational Biology (ISCB), participant in the Workshops on Education in Bioinformatics (WEB) at the annual conferences of the ISCB, a participant in the First RECOMB Satellite Conference on Bioinformatics Education, and as founder of an MS/PhD program and an undergraduate minor in bioinformatics within the University of Arkansas system. He will share his insights concerning current trends and issues in bioinformatics education, a broad perspective on what bioinformatics encompasses and how to tailor a targeted educational program to meet specific needs, and especially the successes and struggles of establishing and running bioinformatics educational programs and offering bioinformatics training through workshops. Ample time will be allotted for group discussion on a wide range of topics affecting bioinformatics education.
