The introduction of Next Generation technologies for DNA sequencing, although recent, has had an enormous impact on the kinds of experiments that can be done and the kinds of questions that can asked. No longer is it enough to do a microarray experiment and measure the expression from a thousand genes, now we do experiments that interrogate the state of the entire transcriptome and all possible variants of alternative splicing. In this workshop, we will present an over of the different kinds of technologies that are being used for Next Generation kinds of experiments, and their differing applications. We will look more deeply into a data set obtained from a Next Generation experiment and do some hands-on with data analysis.
